About the Workshop
This full-day workshop aims to bring together academics, theorists, designers, engineers and the industry in order to investigate the development of the next generation of wearable accessories and specifically digital jewellery. We invite submissions from academics working with multi-disciplinary methodologies and practices, craft makers working in the intersection of design and technology, theorists from anthropology and digital humanities with knowledge on both the evolution of jewellery design and the integration of new techniques in the making process as well as design and engineering students and researchers.
As a prospective outcome of this research, we aim to develop a new language between engineers and designers concentrating on collaborative work methodologies, bio-data collection techniques, and an outlook on the current and next generation of fabrication technologies.
Furthermore, we aim to ground our research using literature from anthropology and the humanities and investigate how the principle of Animism can be put into practice through jewellery that respond to the action of its wearers.
